Upgrade the pre-existing far-left and far-right FPs when you can spare the munitions points when you do that, bring the mobile HMG that was covering the same area into the center (or wherever else German infantry is concentrating). On your main line, build a new FP about 15m back from the pre-existing center ones. Bring in more AT guns to cover the W road until you have a total of eight.

Side-mission #2 (random selection of tank-kill, VIP-kill, intel-gather, or allies-save) will gain you at most an additional 5 or 6 experience points, while it could cost you a lot of casualties-and the intel-gather and allies-save missions are not reasonably achievable. However, you should know that side-mission #1, taking the checkpoint up the W road, is worse than useless it will cost casualties and will result in the arrival of Easy Co., whose firefights with German armor on your main line will break your TTs. The suggestions below assume that you will keep the road open. Note: If you don’t want to deal with German vehicles or attempt a side-mission, just build TTs across the mouth of that W road, leave the upgraded FP unmanned, place your AT gun elsewhere, and focus on defending your main line for the rest of the mission. Do not place your RE squads in any of the FPs-the grenades they throw will damage your lines of TTs, allowing German armor breakthroughs. Your rifleman squads and the Lt can defend from behind the front fortifications. Place your starting HMG and the first new one you bring in behind sandbags where they can cover the far left and far right sides of your main line (i.e., the parts not covered by your front-center FPs). Upgrade your two front-center firing positions (FPs) with HMGs as the necessary munitions points become available. Note that Ardennes Assault, like other COH2 elements, has pathing bugs-your TT- and wire-laying squads will need some micro to get most quickly where they need to be. Your assault engineers, and an RE squad when available, should lay wire on the left and right sides of the line, on the friendly side of the TTs. Do not leave gaps, and do not use pre-existing TTs and obstacles as part of your line-those objects are not intact and German vehicles will eventually break through them. Your starting RE squads should immediately lay tank traps (TTs) between your forward fortifications and between the fortifications and the woods to either side (see images), in order to block German vehicles coming from the top of the map. In the ~3-minute period before the German attack starts (there is a countdown timer), start by bringing in the lieutenant and an HMG. It should allow you to minimize casualties and hassle, while achieving 40-60 XP and the veterancy-bonus side-mission if you choose. Here’s my favorite way to play this mission, using Dog Co.
